Happy Monday, Team!
Per special request, this week’s topic is Tips for Maintaining Control of Medical Treatment in Georgia:
- In Georgia, the EMPLOYER determines what doctors are included on its Panel of Physicians.
- For the Employer to maintain control of the injured worker’s medical treatment, the panel must include:
- at least 6 physicians or professional associations;
- one orthopedic surgeon;
- a minority physician; AND
- no more than two industrial clinics.
- Tips for maintaining and keeping control of medical treatment on a claim:
- List specific doctors on the panel – NOT facilities.
- Do NOT pick doctors by location/geography – pick doctors who you trust!
- MEET with your doctors.
- Include at least 8 doctors on the panel so that if one moves, no longer practices, or no longer accepts workers’ compensation patients, the panel remains valid.
- Check information quarterly!!! If the contact information for the clinic/physician is no longer the correct information, the panel COULD be considered invalid.
As always, feel free to reach out if you run into any GA questions/issues!
Sincerely,
John Fennelly | Atlanta Attorney
