Morgan’s Tip of the Week- FL Litigation at a glance half way through 2024
Greetings,
Well hard to believe we crossed the half-way point in 2024. I thought it would be a good time to look and see where the amount of litigation stands as compared to last year.
So, through the first 6 months of 2024, the number of new litigated cases in Florida was down slightly.
Number of new litigated claims | |||
1/1/23-6/30/23 | 16602 | ||
1/1/24-6/30/24 | 16012 | 96.4% |
June actually saw a pretty significant decrease, BUT that could be in part due to how the calendar fell; June 2024 had two less work-days than June 2023. We may see an uptick in July with the spillover from June. Regardless, the good news is we are not looking at an increase in the number of WC litigated claims.
Jun-23 | 2840 | ||
Jun-24 | 2534 | 89% |
What we do not have access to yet is the number of Petitions filed within each claim and on the existing claims to determine the overall amount of litigation activity. Anecdotally, based on my own caseload, it does feel that there has been an increase in the amount of overall litigation. DOAH will put out their annual report in a few months and then we can get our arms around the actual amount of litigation.
As always, let me know if you have any questions, need help finding doctors or help with any cases in Central Florida!
