Morgan’s Tip of the Week – Update on FL WC System

Greetings, I hope you are doing as well as can be under the circumstances.

I have received a number of questions about the status of the FL WC system.   In essence it is still functioning on schedule.   All State Mediations are occurring by phone through 4/30.   Motion hearings are by phone as well.   Private mediations are moving forward too, some by phone and some by Zoom or other means.  Notary requirements have been loosened for swearing in witnesses as well as for pro se claimant’s settlement documents.

Trials are also still moving forward.  I did hear of a telephonic one last week, and some may occur through video conferencing.  Here are links to the orders from DOAH and the OJCC regarding the process (for the moment).

The Florida OJCC is now mandating all mediations will be telephonic
through April 30, 2020.

For those of you in Florida, looks like we are in for a rainy few days.  Try and stay sane while following social distancing guidelines.  This weekend, I am going to order those virtual reality glasses for my phone, pull up a baseball game, pour a beer in a plastic cup, have a boiled hot dog in a stale bun, throw peanut shells on the floor and take $27.50 and throw it away (for the full effect).

Sincerely,
